The Alpha 3 Class marks the beginning of a love of learning that is developed at SJGS. Our PreK-3 students are always up to something that enhances their education by stimulating all the senses. 


Prek 3 Classroom Schedule

Class curricula at St. Johns Grammar School are designed to be flexible and used to meet the needs of the individual student. Teachers provide curriculum enrichment for each grade level. The curriculum goals for the Alpha - 3 grade are listed below:

Social Development

* Works and plays well with other children

* Follows classroom rules

* Follows verbal directions 1-2 step

Language

* Recognizes likenesses and differences in letters

* Recognizes name, states letters in name, and writes

  name in uppercase letters

* Identifies each uppercase letter of the alphabet

* Traces each uppercase letter of the alphabet

* Says the letters in alphabetical order from memory

* Demonstrates comprehension of positional words

* Identifies orally words that rhyme

* Identifies by pictures and orally objects that are

  opposite,same

* Enjoys listening to a story and participating in the

  discussion of it

* Follows oral instructions of one part

Psychomotor

* Will use crayons to color

* Traces numerals, letters and shapes with finger

* Participates in finger plays and clapping activities

* Holds and operates scissors and glue sticks

* Walks assisted on a balance beam heel-to-toe

* Hops on one foot

* Matches shapes, sizes and colors accurately

* Strings beads

* Locates various body parts

Mathematics

* Counts 0 -20

* Identifies numbers 0 - 10

* Traces numbers 0 - 10

* Tells which item is first, second and third

* Classifies objects having common characteristics

* Counts objects

* Orders objects by size in ascending or descending order

* Names and recognizes shapes: circle, square, triangle, oval and diamond
