Supporting Our Troops
St. Johns Grammar School students and teachers brought an old-fashion Trim-A-Tree Holiday Party to the Robert F. Ensslin Armory in St. Augustine, FL.  The program was dedicated to the deployed soldiers and families of the 146th Expeditionary Signal Battalion from Jacksonville, FL.  Events included decorating a tree with handmade ornaments made by the students, a choir performance, presenting presents to the families of the 146th, a cadence performed by the students written specifically for the FLARNG, and delicious treats made by the SJGS Girls Club.

The students donated a total of 146 presents to the families.  Considering the size of the school, there were no indications that our economy was hurting.  Truly a blessing for a wonderful purpose.

The students received a message from the entire 146th via video and gift bags from the Family Readiness Coordinator, Lori Culberson and the 146th Family Readiness Group.

Soldiers stationed at the Ensslin Armory, as well as, as civilian team members participated in the event.  Special guest were families of the deployed soldiers to include Mrs. Dawn Johnson whose husband, LTC Matt Johson, is the Commander of the 146th.  LTC Johnson's three children were in attendance as well.

The kindness, gentleness, warmth, and consideration the soldiers demonstrated towards the students will forever be a precious memory.  SJGS thanks the Florida Army National Guard for the opportunity to support them this year and many years to come.

The 146th is mentioned every school day during a traditional flag ceremony.
